About The Position
• Work with Mill Manager, Superintendent, and other Supervisors to optimize productivity
• Assure safe workplace practices are followed and promote safety awareness through leading by example
• Communicate with all levels of management on root cause analysis, incident investigations, and training
• Maintain a strong working relationship with Supervisors and Managers across the Company
• Actively manage and reduce downtime through quick analysis of options and orchestrating solutions
• Identify opportunities and take measures to reduce waste and inefficiencies
• Manage lumber quality and grade to maximize value
• Recognize and correct production, quality, and grade issues
• Focus on continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, customer requirements, and product quality
• Understand and program optimizing scanners in response to changes in market pricing and product demand
• Supervise, train, direct, and coordinate work of the crew to assure the highest quality standards are maintained
• Effectively manage crew work time and duties during production, breakdowns, and emergencies
• Manage scheduled time off, unexpected absences, and modified duty of crew
• Recognize and recommend crew commendation, corrective, disciplinary and discharge actions
• Participate in crew member corrective, disciplinary and discharge actions

Qualifications
• At least 2 years’ experience in lumber grading or quality control - optimizing scanner experience preferred
• Experience working with WWPA Quality Management System (QMS)
• Certified Lumber Grader card preferred
• Full understanding of a grading association rule book
• Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a crew
• Understand lumber manufacturing processes with emphasis in people management
• Proven commitment to safety and Company policy
• Ability to handle multiple priorities under demanding circumstances
• Proficient in documentation, workflow, math computation, and computer technology

The general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries is from $75,000 to $115,000 per year, and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to: relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and/or education.
